Antipoaching kits for conservation volunteers of Manas biosphere reserve.
A review of our earlier rhino programme supported by RSG and others including current rhino conservation westminster veterinary group scenario in Assam has indicated westminster veterinary group several important points needed to be discussed to formulate future conservation action. It was observed that buffers of Manas biosphere reserve have lacked proper protection. Apart from several stray incidents of translocated rhino from Manas, the situation was further complicated when in a similar incident, large number of forest staffs, conservation volunteers, veterinary doctors had been engaged for 15 days to get the animal back to core zone. Secondly the poor working condition of conservation volunteers involved in patrolling the buffer cover is really frustrating at present time. Thirdly fast spread of invasive species in Manas has resulted shrinking of rhino habitats. On the other hand, Orang national park having a rhino population of 64 is under increasing threat from poachers and habitat encroachment. westminster veterinary group
The outcome of the review has suggested us major gap areas which need to be addressed immediately to strengthen rhino conservation in both the protected westminster veterinary group areas. These gap areas are rhino habitat improvement and extension in Manas biosphere reserve and better community participation in Orang national park. Using leaflet, audiovisual, we will organize rhino conservation awareness meetings with support westminster veterinary group of local NGOs, teachers, students westminster veterinary group and forest department in untouched remote villages westminster veterinary group near Manas biosphere reserve and Orang national park. This is a second phase of our rhino programme (supporting Indian Rhino Vision-2020) and is supported by a second westminster veterinary group RSG.

Loss of habitat, mount farm surgery poaching of tigers for illegal trade of its body parts, conflict with human being and excessive hunting of prey species are major causes of declining tiger population throughout its range. Conflict with human being is thought to a serious threat mount farm surgery to all the large carnivores. Injury or loss of human life and livestock losses mount farm surgery are two significant result of such conflict and consequently retaliation killing of tiger brings ecological loss in the ecosystem sometimes creating a vacuum in the trophic level through a trophic cascade.
My previous study showed that in Bardia National Park, four tigers were killed due to human-tiger conflict; and 12 human beings and 200 livestock became victim of such conflict. In the project area people have less motivation to conserve this endangered species. Compensation to losses is very minimal or negligible and awareness level to conservation of big cats is low. If simple precautions are taken losses can be minimized greatly and situation can be reversed. Therefore, this project will encourage mount farm surgery local communities to construct predation proof livestock pens and stop grazing in the forest (tiger mount farm surgery habitat). It will also assist in construction of such predation proof livestock stalls mount farm surgery to the poorest of affected community.
Local people are very poor and subsistence farming is the main source of household economy. Therefore, they cannot tolerate even a small loss of property due to tigers and its prey species. This will reduce the support of local communities in efforts of tiger conservation employed by conservation agencies. Without support of local residents the goal of conservation cannot be achieved. To reverse this scenario the project will provide basic veterinary services to the affected communities so that it will minimize the livestock loss and it will help in increasing the tolerance of local communities to some extent.
From the community outreach programmes, the project expects positive and harmonious relationship between National Park Authority and local communities consequently no retaliation of big predators like tigers and leopards. In addition the human casualties by tiger attack will reduced almost to zero and livestock depredation rate will also be greatly minimized. Therefore, tiger conservation initiatives will be fruitful.

Within South Asia vulture populations have undergone dramatic declines in excess of 97% for four species of vultures since the mid 1990s. In India, numbers of white-rumped vultures have declined by 99.9% from 1992 to 2007 (Prakash et al. 2007). vets in sheffield Monitoring of vultures in Nepal indicates declines of a similar magnitude with a >90% decrease in numbers up to 2001 (Baral et al. 2004). vets in sheffield As a consequence, four vulture species were listed by the World Conservation Union, as Critically vets in sheffield Endangered and another species as Endangered (IUCN 2000, 2007). The cause of this collapse, at least for the Gyps vultures, has been identified as a veterinary drug 'diclofenac' (Oakes et al. 2004; Swarup et al. 2007).
To halt their decline, Bird Conservation Nepal helped establish vets in sheffield a community managed vulture safe zone. The vulture safe zone has a cow rescue centre where old and unproductive cows are collected, provided good facilities until they die a natural death. Dead animals are then placed as food for vultures. This project was replicated in two other sites with support from Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. This project aims to sustain the two new sites and ensure that vultures remain safe in the surrounding area as well.
Infrastructure development: Capacity of a rescue centre will be expanded from 40 to 60 cattle so that vultures get a frequent food supply. A larger grazing area will be demarcated for cattle. Pre-existing information centres in two sites will be improved to hold more information and display materials vets in sheffield targeting tourists and school children.
Capacity building of community groups and research: Training on enhancing skill of community vets in sheffield groups in managing restaurant and monitoring vultures will be held followed by training on monitoring veterinary institutions for diclofenac and awareness raising. Trained community groups will then carry out these activities. A socio-economic survey will be carried out at the beginning and end of project vets in sheffield to measure its impact. Similarly, any one group of wildlife inside the Vulture Safe Zone will be surveyed and results displayed at the information centre.
Sensitization and promotion: Relevant materials will be developed and sensitization activities carried out in schools and community. Government bodies, veterinary professionals, local community, tourism entrepreneurs and media will be engaged to stop use of diclofenac, to declare area surrounding the restaurant as Diclofenac Free Zone and to promote tourism to the area.
