Many enterprise IT teams are still running a centrally planned system, with services doled out by the IT department. But we are heading towards a self-service world. Rather than starting with a request and building up a service, IT decision makers have to switch to building the service ready for the request. It requires a change in mind-set, and means the right controls need to be put in the right places. This kind of decentralised provisioning may look to some like it will cause chaos, but by putting the right controls in place it is easier to ensure that everything works correctly.
Firstly, you have to take a closer look at how your employees are using external cloud solutions. For example, if they’re using a publicly available cloud storage system, such as Dropbox, you have to ask yourself whether the data they’re putting on that system is a problem. If users are putting data in Dropbox south bay veterinary group that is too sensitive to be stored in such a way, you have to look at why they’re doing this, especially in the context of the services you already provide.
